Description
I do not own the photograph, I scanned it from my copy of The Virginian Railway by H. Reid.
Virginian Railroad MB class 2-8-2 Mikado #430 is seen here with a coal drag. The mighty 2-8-2 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in May 1909 and was one of 42 locomotives built by Baldwin from 1909 - 1910 for the VGN. #430 served the Virginian Railroad until March 1955 after over 45 years of service.
Whilst the real engine was sadly cut up for scrap metal, my O.C.: William was formerly VGN #430 until he was fortunately sold to the Knoxville & Asheville Railroad after the VGN retired him in March 1955.
